HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i men's and women's diving squads will compete in the UCLA Bruin Diving Invitational this Friday through Sunday at the Spieker Aquatics Center.
On the women's side UH will go up against 15 other teams in the event, including:
• UCLA
• USC
• Stanford
• Utah
• San Diego State
• UNLV
• San Diego
• Cal Poly
• Northern Arizona
• Pepperdine
• Air Force
• Denver
• Cal Baptist
• California
• San Jose State
The event will host five Pac 12 schools, three from the Mountain West, and two from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. In total, 64 women will compete in the event with UH holding four spots.
Throughout the season the Rainbow Wahine have improved with the help of sophomores
Ivy Houser and
Victoria Moretti. Both continue to climb up the leader boards with every event. Senior
Monica Gavaris and junior
Jami Stone continue to make their impact on the season, providing stability to the roster.
Two weeks ago in the Wally Nakamoto Diving Invite, Houser broke into the top-five of the one-meter dive, while Stone did the same in the three-meter. Houser finished outside of the top five positions in the platform dive but showcased her ability to perform well in the event.
For the men, UH will go up against the same pool of teams excluding San Jose State, Pepperdine, San Diego State, and Northern Arizona.
The Warriors are coming off an impressive showing in the Wally Nakamoto Diving Invite as three different divers claimed first-place finishes in the event. Junior Lucas Copperman won the platform dive as senior Johan Sandell claimed the three-meter dive, and freshman Max Burgman notched the one-meter dive.
