Rainbow Wahine Head to Nevada and San Francisco for Two-Match Swing

Honolulu- After starting the away portion of the 2018 schedule at 2-0, the University of Hawai'i soccer team will look to keep its spotless road record with a two-match road trip to Nevada and San Francisco later this week.

The Rainbow Wahine's (3-2) two-match swing will begin on Thursday with a matchup against the Wolf Pack (3-2-1) at 3:30 p.m. HT (6:30 p.m. PT), followed by a stop to take on the Dons (5-3) on Sunday at 10 a.m. HT (1 p.m. PT) before returning to the island of O'ahu.

Most recently UH fell to future Big West member UC San Diego, 2-1 on Sept. 7. The Rainbow Wahine outshot the visiting Tritons 17-10, including an 11-5 advantage in the second half, but only found the net once in the barrage of shots. The performance by the 'Bows continued a trend of outshooting their opponents and pushing the offensive tempo throughout the match.

Senior midfielder Raisa Strom-Okimoto has been the consistent threat from a scoring opportunity, but backing her up has been sophomore midfielder, Leialoha Medeiros. The duo is one and two in scoring for the Rainbow Wahine, including a combined 11 shots in the loss to UC San Diego.

Nevada enters Thursday's match losers of back-to-back matches to Saint Mary's and Sacramento State. UH previously knocked off Saint Mary's on the road in overtime, 2-1 on Aug. 30. The Wolf Pack are headlined by a newcomer in freshman forward Payton Lieb. In five matches Lieb has notched a team-leading three goals and one assist but did not score in the last two losses.

San Francisco has also lost back-to-back matches, but against Big 12 opponents Oklahoma and #21 Oklahoma State, each match being decided by three goals. Redshirt junior midfielder Samantha Jehnings and junior forward Miciah Madison lead the Dons' offensive attack. Jehnings has tallied a team-high five goals, but four of the five goals came in the first two matches of the season. On the flip side, Madison has registered one goal but leads the team in assists with three. The Dons will host Sacramento State on Friday, Sept. 14 before welcoming UH on Sunday, Sept. 16.
