Game Notes
  • This year marks the third straight season UH will play in "Week 0" after taking on Cal in Sydney, Australia to open 2016 and UMass in Amherst to start the 2017 season.
  • This will be just the fifth time in the last 25 years that UH will open the season on the U.S. Mainland. The Warriors will open the year away from home for a program-record third straight year.
  • This year marks the third time in program history that UH will open the season with a conference road game and just the sixth time it opens the season with a conference game. UH's last season opener against a conference opponent was in 1994 vs. BYU (L, 13-12).
  • Former Western Athletic Conference rivals have played four times as Mountain West opponents with CSU winning each contest. UH has lost six straight games in Fort Collins, with its last win, 31-23, Sept. 10, 1988.
  • UH defensive line coach Ricky Logo spent the past three seasons at Colorado State coaching the defensive line and helping the Rams to three bowl appearances.
  • Under head coach Nick Rolovich, UH is 4-8 in road games, which includes a current five-game slide after opening the 2017 season with a win at UMass. The Warriors went 0-4 in MW road games last season after winning three of four in Rolovich's inaugural season.

Getting the Show Started
The August 25 opener is the earliest start in program history. The past two years, UH opened on August 26 (vs. Cal in Sydney, Australia in 2016 and at UMass in 2017). The newly expanded Hawai'i Exemption allows the Rainbow Warriors to play their first game the week before Labor Day weekend making "Week Zero" matchups in late August the new normal for UH.

Season Openers
UH is 60-36-5 (.619) all-time in season openers, including a 2-3 mark in season-openers versus conference opponents. Just as rare as opening a season against a conference foe is opening against a conference opponent on the road, which happened just twice prior (1986 vs. Air Force in Colorado Springs and 1991 vs. Wyoming in Laramie).

No-so-Rare Road Opener
This will be the third straight year that the Warriors will open the season away from home. Still for the most part, road openers have been a rarity in the last quarter century. This will mark just the sixth time in the last 25 seasons that UH will open the season outside the state of Hawai'i. Prior to 2006, the last time UH opened on the road was 1992.
