Rainbow Wahine Host Queen’s Cup This Weekend

HONOLULU – After a two-week road trip, the University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team returns home to host the Queen's Cup, April 7-8, in Waikiki. Joining the Rainbow Wahine in the two-day tournament at Queen's Beach is No. 16 Loyola Marymount (13-9), Utah (0-0), and Washington (6-6).

UH played LMU earlier this year, defeating the Lions, 3-2, on March 8 in a neutral site match at UCLA. It was UH's eighth win in nine all-time meetings with LMU. Meanwhile, Pac-12 opponents Utah and Washington are less familiar foes. UH defeated the Utes, 5-0, in the first and only meeting between the teams last year in the Outrigger Hawai'i Invitational. UH and Washington have yet to meet on the sand.

UH (23-3) is currently riding a school-record 18-match win steak with nine of those wins coming on its most recent road trip to South Carolina and Northern Carolina. The SandBows defeated three top 10 teams – No. 8 South Carolina, No. 6 Cal Poly, and No. 5 Long Beach State – during the trip.

UH now returns home for its second tournament this year at Queen's Beach. The SandBows previously went 6-0, including a pair of wins over USC, to capture the Outrigger Hawai'i Invitational, March 17-18.

The team's top pair of Emily Maglio and Ka'iwi Schucht have  won 14 straight matches, tied for a school record. Morgan Martin and Lea Monkhouse have won 16 of their last 17 matches earning them Big West Pairs Team of the Week honors in three of the last for weeks. Meanwhile, Ari Homayun and Amy Ozee remain hot at the No. 4 flight, winning 12 straight matches.
