REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's sailing squad finished in fourth place at the PCCSC Women's Championship hosted April 14-15 by Stanford. With a top-four finish the Rainbow Wahine qualified for next month's ICSA Women's National Championship—UH's 10th berth in the last 11 years.
The Rainbow Wahine totaled 211 points, easily out-distancing fifth-place Cal Poly by 13 points. UH was propelled by
Caitlin Schadt,
Gianna Bailey, and
Jessica Lawler in the A division (93 points, 3rd) and
Annika Garrett,
Danielle Ahir, and
Megan Zamzow in the B division (118 points, 5th).
Stanford captured the regatta by a wide margin, finishing with 117 points, some 70 points ahead of runner-up UCSB. USC also qualified for the nationals by finishing third with 120 points. A total of nine teams competed in 28 races—14 in each division—over the weekend.
The Rainbow Wahine will now compete in the ICSA Women's Nationals to be hosted by Old Dominion, May 21-24, in Norfolk, Va.
