SandBows Set New Single-Season Win Total

HONOLULU – In a record-breaking season, the No. 3 University of Hawai'i women's beach volleyball team hit another new milestone following a pair of 5-0 wins over Boise State and Arizona State Saturday at the T.C. Ching Athletic Complex.

The two wins pushed UH's record to 30-3, setting a new mark for single-season wins. The previous record was 29 set by last year's squad. The Rainbow Wahine have now won 25 straight matches with twelve of their last 14 wins coming via sweeps. UH's last loss came against Florida State on March 10.

On a rainy and windy day in Manoa, the SandBows had little trouble dispatching the Broncos (2-8) and Sun Devils (10-15). UH won eight of their 10 points in decisive straight-set manner. Morgan Martin and Lea Monkhouse were extended to three sets against Boise State's No. 2 pair, but left little doubt with a 15-5 win in the third set. Hi'ilawe Huddleston and Hannah Zalopany did the same, winning 15-6 in the final set when pushed to three by Arizona State's No. 5 pair.

Top pair Emily Maglio and Ka'iwi Schucht extended their school-record win streak to 21 straight matches, while Ari Homayun and Amy Ozee remain close on their heels with 19 straight at the No. 4 flight. The No. 3 pair of Carly Kan and Laurel Weaver have won 13 of their last 14 matches.

In the day's other match, Boise State defeated Arizona State, 3-2.

The Rainbow Wahine will be back in action tomorrow as they again take on Arizona State (2 p.m.) and Boise State (4 p.m.). UH's six departing players – Allyssah Fitterer, Kan, Weaver, Maglio, Schucht, and Zalopany will be honored at the end of the evening with the Senior Night Ceremony.
