Rainbow Wahine Sailors Finish 18th At Dellenbaugh Intersectional

CRANSTON, R.I. – The University of Hawai'i women's sailing team finished 18th at the Dellenbaugh Intersectional hosted by Brown University, March 31-April 1, off the waters of the Edgewood Yacht Club.

In their lone regular-season trek to the East Coast, the Rainbow Wahine were greeted by chilly, yet sunny and shifty conditions. A total of 34 races, 17 in each the A and B divisions, were completed over the weekend. UH totaled 531 points and had its best finish in the opening race of the weekend when the A team finished in fourth.

Skippering for UH in the A division was Caitlin Schadt with Gianna Bailey and Jessica Lawler serving as crew. Annika Garrett (skipper), Caitlin Bennett (skipper), Megan Lucas (crew) and Lawler (crew) competed in the B division.

Host Brown captured the Dellenbaugh Trophy for the second straight year with a regatta-low 180 points. Stanford, the only other West Coast school beside UH in the field, finished runner-up with 234 points, while Yale rounded out the top three with 247 points.

Next up for the Rainbow Wahine is the PCCS Women's Championship, April 14-15, in Redwood City, Calif.
