SAN FRANCISCO – The University of Hawai'i track and field squad got started on the pair of spring break competitions in northern California on Friday, picking up a pair of new Big West qualifiers and a quintet of top-10 finishes at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and Stanford Invitational.
Recording the best result of the day, sophomore
Lily Lowe finished second in the Stanford Invitational high jump with a height of 5-8.75 (1.75m), finishing first among collegiate performers behind unattached Elizabeth Patterson, 2008 national champion at Arizona.
Amanda Bowers matched her pole vault Outdoor best of 12-5.5 (5.80m) with an eighth-place mark in the invitational at Stanford, earning a Big West qualification. Meanwhile, in the women's collegiate pole vault at Stanford,
Nina Bean was fourth at 11-5.75 (3.50m), also matching her career Outdoor best.
Over at Chabot College track for SFSU, freshman
Britney Price claimed a new long jump career best at 17-7 (5.36m) with a sixth-place finish.
Alexis Brenzil also finished 10th in the javelin at Stanford 146-9 (44.74m), while
Kahili Novikoff finished 14th in the shot put, tossing 39-6.75 (12.04m).
In addition,
Kristen LaCosse met the Big West qualification standard in a career-first 100m hurdles performance with a time of 14.76 seconds.
The Rainbow Wahine return to action on Saturday morning at both events.
