HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team edged out UC Davis, 4-3 to notch its first home win of the season on Senior Day. Doubles partners, seniors Felix Albert and Fabian Woerhl clinched the doubles point for the 'Bows and later Albert clinched the match with a three-set singles win on Tuesday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.
 
The Rainbow Warriors avenged their earlier loss to UC Davis just 16 days ago at the Golden State Invitational in Sacramento, Calif. It marked UH's first home conference win since the 'Bows defeated Cal Poly on March 24, 2014. With the win, UH improved to 2-11 overall and 1-0 in the Big West. UC Davis fell to 6-12 overall and 0-1 in the BWC. It was the final home match in Manoa for Albert and Woehrl.
 
Hawai'I captured the doubles point to start the match. UC Davis won on Court 1, but the 'Bows battled back with UH's No. 3 duo of Lucas Labrunie and Chia-Hua Lu defeating UCD's Chethan Swanson and Arjith Jayraman, 6-2. Then the No. 2 duo of Albert and Woerhl clinched the doubles point, pulling away for a 6-4 win over the Aggies' David Goulak and Tommy Lam.
 
In singles, UH took a 2-0 lead as No. 4 Aleksa Lazarevic cruised past Lam, 6-3, 6-2. But the Aggies then won on Court No. 5 with Arjith Jayraman defeating Woehrl, 6-2, 6-3. Hawai'i's LaBrunie gave the 'Bows a 3-1 lead as he knocked of UCD's Everett Maltby in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3.
 
The last three matches all went to three sets. UC Davis tied the score at 3-3 with wins on Court No. 1 and No. 6.
 
The match hinged on the No. 2 match between UH's Albert and UCD's Goulak. Goulak captured the first set, 6-3. But Albert then mounted a comeback to win the match. Albert took the second set, 6-2. In the third set, the match remained on serve early on until Albert broke Goulak to lead 4-3. Albert went on to win the third set, 6-4 thus winning the match as well.
 
The Rainbow Warriors will play their last four matches—all conference matches—on the road. The 'Bows will start at UC Santa Barbara on Friday, April 6 at 2:00 pm at the Rob Tennis Courts.
