HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team hosts UC Davis to open their Big West season on Tuesday, March 27 at 3:30 pm at the UH Tennis Complex. It will be Senior Day for both
Felix Albert and
Fabian Woehrl.
It will be a rematch from just 16 days ago as the 'Bows look to avenge their loss to the Aggies. IN that last match against UC Davis, the two teams were battling for third place in the Golden State Invitational tournament in Sacramento, Calif. There were several hard fought matches that day, but UCD came out on top. 4-1. It will be both team's Big West opener.
Hawai'i's Albert and Woehrl are both four year letterwinners from Germany. Albert hails from Karlstadt, Germany while Woehrl is from Forcheim Bavaria, Germany.
Woehrl has appeared in over 35 singles matches in his career and 38 doubles matches in his four-year career. This year Woehrl has notched three wins over San Francisco's Marco Barretto at No. 6; Sacramento State's Donald Hall and UT Arlington's Abhishel Bostola both at No. 5. In doubles, he and Albert have partnered most of this season and played primarily on the No. 1 court.
Albert is one of the most decorated Rainbow Warriors in recent history for his efforts both on the court and in the classroom. In tennis, he has earned a pair of Big West Athlete of the Week awards (3/11/15 and 4/26/17); has earned BWC honorable mention honors in 206 and first team singles honors in 2017; and with doubles partner
Marcel Chan named BWC honorable mention in 2016. Off the court, Albert was the first UH men's tennis player to ever be selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-American as a junior, he has twice been named UH's Big West scholar athlete of the year and he's been a Big West Scholar Athlete every season.
