HONOLULU—After having play suspended due to weather on Tuesday, the University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (6-3, 2-1 Big West) took down Pacific (2-5), 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.
The Rainbow Wahine have won three of their last four matches dating back to Feb 23. against Grand Canyon. UH is currently in the middle of a seven-match homestand, and sits at 4-2 overall at home, with their only losses coming to current ranked No. 41 Washington and No. 27 Wichita State.
Sophomore
Petra Melounova moved to 8-2 overall as she downed Maayan Sela in the No. 1 match at 6-4, 6-2. Melounova has won three of her last four matches, and each of her eight wins this season has ended in two sets.
Fellow sophomore
Michelle Pits added to her team-leading win total for her 10th win of the season in the No. 5 matchup. Pits dropped her first set to Anneroos Nederstigt 6-3 but came out ahead in a highly contested second set at 7-6 (4) in the tiebreaker. In the third and final set Pits pulled away to take the victory at 6-3 to clinch the match over the Tigers.
Senior
Klara Pribylova also battled back after falling by a break in the first set. In a marathon match, Pribylova captured the second set against Ioana Popescu and then held her off for the three-set victory, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
UH will continue its stretch of home matches for the sixth match of seven by hosting Big West Conference foe, Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Mar. 17 at 11 a.m. HT.
