Baseball Drops Series Finale at No. 13 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. – The series-closing offensive output of No. 13 LSU (11-6) on Sunday was overwhelming for the University of Hawai'i baseball team (8-6), leading to a 14-1 defeat at Alex Box Stadium, and swaying the series in favor of the Tigers, 2-1.

The Hawai'i pitchers struggled to contain the Tiger hitters from the opening frame, beginning with sophomore Logan Pouelsen (2-1), who was retired after just two innings, allowing six hits and four runs. In total, LSU would score 13 of its runs in the first five innings, capped by a seven-run push in the seventh inning.

The Rainbow Warriors would come around to score in the top of the seventh, as catcher Tyler Murray earned a walk and scored from second on Jedd Andrade's career-first RBI double to left field of LSU reliever Brandon Nowak.

The Tigers outhit UH 17-5, and the Rainbow Warriors left seven runners aboard. Leadoff batter, shortstop Maaki Yamazaki hit 2-for-4 to cap off a .417 batting weekend against the Tigers.

The Rainbow Warriors return home to Les Murakami Stadium next weekend, opening an eight-game homestand with a four-game set vs. Illinois State, March 15-17. The Redbirds (7-5) lead the series at Washington through Sunday, 2-1.
