HONOLULU - University of Hawai'i Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Head Coach
Tim Boyce announced the signing of four student-athletes who will join the squad next season. Alyssa Barnes, Rebecca DeKay, Sophia Lodigiani and Becca Taylor will all be freshman distance runners for UH beginning in the fall of 2019.
"We're quite excited about adding Alyssa, Rebecca, Sophia and Becca during the initial month of the signing period," Boyce said. "We feel each of them has great potential and they come from really solid programs and great families. The future of our distance program has been bolstered significantly by their decisions to join the Rainbow Wahine cross country and track programs."
Alyssa Barnes - Sacramento, Calif. / El Camino HS
- All-League performer in cross country all four years, while securing All-League honors in track and field three years in a row
- Named cross country MVP two years
- Served as cross country team captain
- Eight-time Junior Olympian
- Three-time All-American in track and field and once in cross country at the USATF Junior Olympics
- CIM Marathon Co-ed Team Champions at the 2017 CIM Marathon
- 3200 CAL League Champion 2017
- Three-time CIF State Cross Country Championships Qualifier
- Personal bests are 400m (59.8), 800m (2:17), 1600m (5:16), 3200m (11:08), 5K (18:24)
Rebecca DeKay - London, Ontario / Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School
- Member of Team Ontario and has competed at the Canadian National Championships
- Won two OFSAA bronze medals in the 1500m
- Won the OFSAA bronze in the 3000m
- Personal bests are 800m (2:16), 1500m (4.37), 3000m (10:05), 6K (20:24)
Sophia Lodigiani - Davis, Calif. / Davis HS
- Helped team place second at the California State Championships D1 Race in 2015 and 2016
- Second place team finish at the Nike Cross Country Nationals in 2015 and 2016
- Named All-Nor-Cal Sophomore Runner of the Year in 2016
- Personal bests are 1600m (5:14.11), 3200m (10:48.24), 3 Mile (18:25.4), 5K (17:50.6)
Becca Taylor - Chandler, Ariz. / Chandler HS
- In cross country, won two Division I Team State Championships and had two team runner-up finishes
- Twice finished top 20 in the state in cross country
- In track and field, won three Division I Team State Championships
- Member of the three-time 4x800m relay Division I State Champions team
- Was a top 10 finisher/finalist for the 800m, 1600m and 3200m
- Personal bests are 800m (2:19), 1600m (5:07), 3200m (11:01), 5K (18:40)
