HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team secured commitments from a pair of prep standouts, Chaz Galloway of San Diego, Calif., and Dimitris Mouchlias of Thessaloniki, Greece for the 2020 season.
Galloway, a senior at Del Norte High School in San Diego, Calif., is projected to play at outside hitter for the Rainbow Warriors. This summer, he competed with the U.S. Men's Junior A1 National Training Team after helping his SCVA squad capture the gold medal at the 2017 High Performance Boys Youth National Championship.
A member of the WAVE Volleyball Club, Galloway earned MVP honors during his sophomore year at Cathedral Catholic High School in 2016. That year he also helped his team finish second at the NVCA Tournament.
"Chaz is one of the top outside hitters in his class," Wade said. "He's a dominant scorer and has been the leading point scorer on all the teams he's played with. Chaz is another quick, dynamic, and athletic player who will fit well in our program."
Mouchlias, who is expected to compete at opposite for UH, has represented Greece at various national team levels. He helped his team capture the U18 Greek Championship in which he was named tournament Most Valuable Player. He also led his high school team to the Greek prep championship.
"Dimitris is one of the top scorers for his age group in Europe for several years," Wade said. "He's a quick athlete with a fast jump and arm and has been a part of the Greek national team program. He projects to be a top college level player and is excited as anyone for a chance to compete.
"Both players are excited about joining our program. They're both dynamic players who are comfortable with playing fast and our fans will certainly be entertained."
