PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.—University of Hawai'i women's tennis player No. 51
Petra Melounova split her matches on her opening day of the Riviera/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships hosted by the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
In the singles qualifying round, Melounova was upset by No. 66 Anna Rogers of NC State, 6-2, 6-4. But in the back draw and Melounova's second match of the day, she fought her way to her first victory of her junior season. Melounova battled back after falling by a break in the first set to defeat No. 36 Fatima Bizhukova, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Melounova will continue play in the All-America tourney on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m. against a player to be named.
