Petra Melounova survived a pair of three set matches to advance to the Saturday's quarterfinals. In doubles, UH's
Nikola Dolakova and
Maayan Sela also moved on the quarterfinals with a win on Friday at the Barnes Tennis Center.
Melounova, the fourth seed in the tournament, swept Solymar Colling of San Diego in the Round of 32, 6-3, 6-2. Then, in the Round of 16, Melounova dropped the first set, before coming back to edge out Pepperdine's Anastasia Iamachkine in a second set tie-breaker before cruising to win the deciding third set, 4-6, 7-6, 6-1. In a battle between two seeded players, Melounova will battle fifth-seeded Abi Altick of UCLA at 11:30 on Saturday morning.
In doubles,
Nikola Dolakova and
Maayan Sela were UH's only duo to advance into the quarterfinals. Dolakova and Sela defeated San Diego State's Shakhnoza Khatamoya and Aesha Patel, 8-3. They will take on eighth-seeded Jessica Failla and Anastasia Iamachkine from Pepperdine
