SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team opened the ITA Southwest Regionals on Thursday in San Diego, Calif. at the Barnes Tennis Center. The Rainbow Wahine had two doubles teams and three players in singles all advance to winners' bracket matches on Friday.
 
In doubles, Hawai'i's two duos of Petra Melounova/Roxanne Resma and Nikola Dolakova/Maayan Sela both advanced to the Round of 32 to be played on Friday. Melounova and Resma held off Cal State Fullerton's Lee Emery and Luxizi Meng, 8-5, while Dolakova and Sela combined to defeat UC Riverside's Hanh Pham and Mahli Silpachai, 8-4.
 
In singles, three Rainbow Wahine won both their matches on Thursday to advance into Friday's Round of 32. No. 51 and fourth-seeded Petra Melounova earned a bye in the Round of 128, then knocked off CSUN's Jolene Coetzee, 6-2, 6-4 in the Round of 64. In the Round of 128, UH's senior transfer Maayan Sela held on in the first set by a break, then blanked her opponent, Taylior Tamblyn in the second to win, 7-5, 6-0. Sela went on to defeat CSUN's Evelyn Schmidt in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. UH's Michelle Pits cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over UC Riverside's Sarah Khattab. She then recorded a straight-set win over Long Beach State's Wiktoria Rutkowski, 6-2, 6-2.
