Honolulu—The University of Hawai'i diving squad got off to an impressive start with its first competition of the season at CSU Bakersfield on Thursday.
On the men's side, UH solidified first through third in the one-meter dive as freshman
Max Burman finished in the No. 1 spot. A native of Huskvarna, Sweeden, Burman is a Swedish national champion in both the one-meter and three-meter springboard dives. In his debut with the Rainbow Warriors, he registered a score of 319.65.

Grant Newcombe turned solid season debuts as well with third place and second place finishes.
The reigning MPSF freshman diver of the year,
Ivy Houser picked up where she left off with the start of her sophomore campaign finishing at No. 1 in the women's three-meter dive. Houser scored a 295.60, besting teammates, senior
Monica Gavaris, and junior
Jami Stone. The Rainbow Wahine mirrored the same as the men, finishing one through three in the stands as Gavaris finished at No. 2, with Stone at No. 3.
Both squads will compete again tomorrow, along with the swimmers at CSU Bakersfield, and then the diving team will head to Cal Baptist for the Lancer Diving Invitational on Saturday.
