Rainbow Wahine Hosts Two Matches Against Northern Arizona

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team (4-5) faces Northern Arizona (4-5) in a pair of matches this week while also hosting its annual Alumane Game. The Rainbow Wahine will take on the Lumberjacks on Friday, Sept. 15 and 16 with both matches starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Stan Sheriff Center. Prior to Saturday's match, the 'Bows will host its Alumnae Match at 5:00 p.m.
 
The Rainbow Wahine went 2-1 in their last pre-season tournament of the year last week. Hawai'i fell in a five-set heartbreaker to No. 10 BYU but battled back to defeat Baylor in five and then swept Nevada in the tourney finale. Junior outside hitter McKenna Granato led UH this past week with 61 total kills, averaging 4.69 kills per set. She also notched a pair of double-doubles and was in on six blocks. Overall, Granato has a team-high 153 kills (4.25 per set) with 90 digs, 11 blocks and five aces.
 
Senior middle hitter Emily Maglio also is coming off a productive week, posting 41 kills and 18 total blocks (with two solo).  Overall, Maglio is just two kills shy of 100 whil hitting a team-high .366 (98-16-216). She also leads UH with 51 total blocks (four solo).
 
Senior libero Savanah Kahakai entered the UH career record book for digs this past week as she recorded a team-high 52 digs. She passed former UH All-Americans Lily Kahumoku, Martina Cincerova, and Suzanne Eagye to climb to No. 8 all-time. She now needs just two digs to tie Teee Williams at No. 7 with 1,143 career digs. This season, Kahakai has  once again been the anchor of the defense with a team-high 140 digs, averaging 3.89 digs per set and she is second on the etam with 28 assists and eight service aces.
 
Sophomore setter Norene Iosia not only leads UH with 373 assists and 15 service aces. She is second on the team with 97 digs and 30 blocks (tied with Skyler Williams).
 
NAU comes to Hawai'i after hosting last week's Lumberjack Classic where they went 1-2. NAU fell to Utah State and Arizona State but defeated CSU Bakersfield in four in the tourney finale. The Lumberjacks are led by Kaylie Jorgenson who has 115 kills, while Abby Akin has a team-best 26 blocks.

TELEVISION: Spectrum Sports will televise all of UH's matches this week with Kanoa Leahey handling the play-by-play and Chris McLachlin doing the color commentating for all three matches. Scott Robbs, Lisa Strand Ma'a and Ryan Kalei Tsuji will be the on-air talent for the pre- and post-game shows. Fans in Hawai'i can watch on Spectrum OC16  channels 12 and 1012 (HD).
