OTTAWA, Ontario – Extending a string of University of Hawai'i track and field student-athletes traveling to international competitions, the Canadian Track and Field Championships begin this week at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Representing the Rainbow Wahine in the field are
Alexis Brenzil and
Tatiana Desender.
Â
Although the Championships begin on Monday, July 3 and run through July 9, the two Rainbow Wahine's events won't come up on the schedule until the weekend.
Â
Continuing her summer work with Niagra Regional Athletics for the fourth year, Brenzil (Fr., Welland, Ontario) will look to make her mark at the national games in the U20 javelin throw. Brenzil reached her seeded distance of 156-03 (47.63m) during the Big West Championships heptathlon in May – a mark that sets her atop the U20 field heading into this weekend. The women's U20 javelin is scheduled for 6:00 a.m. HT (12:00 p.m. ET) on Saturday, July 8.
Â
Running unattached in the U20 400m hurdles, Desender (Fr., London, Ontario) will face a challenging U20 field in Ottawa, entering the competition with a seed time of 63.79 seconds. The women's U20 400m hurdles semi-final is scheduled for 5:15 a.m. HT (11:15 a.m. ET) on July 8, with the final set for 5:10 a.m. HT (11:10 a.m. ET) on Sunday, July 9.
Athletics Canada will host a
live stream from Terry Fox with select events run live and others available through on-demand content. Live results will be published throughout the meet via
Athletics Canada.
Â
The summer is far from over for internationally-competing Rainbow Wahine. Freshman
Calli-Ann Abbott will be representing Team British Columbia in the Canada Summer Games, July 28-August 3 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Brenzil will have one more major competition on the schedule – recently named on Team Canada's roster to represent her home nation in Trujillo, Pero at the Pan American Junior Championships, July 21-23.
