FULLERTON, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i track and field squad earned a pair of top 10 finishes in wrapping up the final day of competition Saturday during the Big West Multi-Event Championships at Titan Track Stadium.

Alexis Brenzil and
Calli-Ann Abbott continued their upward trajectory from the opening day of competition. A rookie from Welland, Ontario, Brenzil earned fifth place in her first conference championship heptathlon with a score of 4,786, taking charge in the throwing events. She earned first in the javelin (156-3/47.63m) and shot put (40-00.75/12.21m) events, while adding a seventh-place mark in the high jump (5-01.00/1.55m). All three were outdoor career bests.

Brenzil boosted her previous heptathlon score by 357 points, while she reclaimed the top Big West javelin mark, all but assuring her an NCAA West Preliminary Round appearance with the region's 25th-best mark.

Her classmate from Powell River, British Columbia, Abbott placed seventh with 4,650 points. She earned her score via numerous top 10 event finishes, ranking fourth in both the javelin (114-6/34.90m) and shot put (37-0.5/11.29m) events, fifth in the 100m hurdles (14.52) and ninth in both the 200m (26.11) and long jump events (17-06.75/5.35m). The rookie notched career bests in the javelin, shot put and 200m.

Setting up for next week's full team Big West Track and Field Championships, Brenzil and Abbott combined for six team points. The rest of the Rainbow Wahine squad will return to Titan Track Stadium on Friday and Saturday, May 12-13.
