HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball duo of
Brett Rosenmeier and
Colton Cowell advanced to the semifinal round of the USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships after winning their quarterfinal match Friday at Hermosa Beach Pier.
The pair, seeded 10
th among the 11-team field, wrapped up pool play in the morning by defeating Mount St. Joseph's Brett Cooper and Alex Vohland, 21-13, 21-12 to lead Pool C with a 3-0 mark. Later in the afternoon, Rosenmeier and Cowell swept UC Irvine's Dillon Hoffman and Reid Dominguez, 21-18, 21-14 in the quarterfinals.
The UH duo will meet the second-seeded Jackson Bantle and Hagen Smith of UCLA Saturday at 5:30 a.m. HT. A win will send them to the finals while a loss puts them in the third place match. The other semifinal features Lucas Yoder of USC and Michael Saeta of UC Irvine and Nathan Vander Meer of Davenport and Logan Webber of Cincinnati Christian.
The championship match is slated to begin at 10:15 a.m. HT while the third place match is 8:00 a.m. HT. The men's final will air taped delayed on NBCSN following the live broadcast of the women's final at 12:00 p.m. HT.
The USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships is the first stop of the Team USA Summer Champions Series, presented by Comcast. The winners of the event will earn a spot on a USAV collegiate beach national team, which competes throughout the U.S. and abroad at FIVB events.
