IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i track and field team hemmed up the 2017 regular season over the weekend at Anteater Stadium in the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational.

Olympia, Wash. sophomore
Karen Bulger got things started for Hawai'i with Friday's javelin competition, tossing 141-07 (43.15m) to finish in second place. She heads into the upcoming Big West meet with a steady hold on first place in the conference. On Friday, Wai'anae senior
Felicianna Vazquez came in third with a 139-05 (42.49m) mark, which moves her up to sixth in the BWC standings.

Also on the opening day of competition, Wailuku, Maui senior
Amber Kozaki reached a season's-best  12-06.00 (3.81m) to finish fifth in the pole vault, rising to 11th in the Big West standings. Freshman teammate
Megan Fereira cleared 12-00.00 (3.66m) to finish ninth, while also qualifying for the conference meet.

Leading the way on Saturday for the Rainbow Wahine, Murray, Ky. freshman
Lily Lowe had a breakthrough at just the right time, coming in third in the high jump with a new season-high 5-9.25 (1.76m) – moving her into a tie for first in the Big West standings just two weeks ahead of her conference championships debut.

Sophomore
Piper McDonald also moved up in the conference 3,000m steeplechase standings, collecting a new career-best 12:03.14 to finish 13th in the event in Irvine. Senior
Mary Kamau earned 10th place in the shot put with a mark of 39-11.5 (12.18m).

With this weekend's meet completed, the Rainbow Wahine have concluded the 2017 regular season and now begin preparation for the conference championships. UH has 16 earned qualifications in 17 events now. First up will be the Multi-Event Championships, coming next week, May 5-6. The main Big West Track Championships will follow on May 12-13. Both events will be held at the Titan Track Complex in Fullerton, Calif.
