IRVING, Texas – Former University of Hawai'i long snapper
Brodie Nakama was selected to the 2017 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, which recognizes scholar-athletes across all divisions of football.
The senior from Santa Clara, Calif., was UH's only representative. In order to qualify, an individual much maintain a cumulative 3.2 grade point average throughout their college careers; must be a starter or significant contributor in one's last year of eligibility; and must meet all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
Nakama started all four seasons for the Rainbow Warriors as a short snapper on field goals and PATs. He did not commit a bad snap in more than 200 attempts over his career. A four-time academic all-Mountain West selection, Nakama was awarded a scholarship during fall camp of his senior year in a surprise scholarship-reveal pool party that was featured nationally on ESPN's SportsCenter.
A total of 1,103 players from 302 schools qualified for membership in the society's 11
th year, both new single-year records in the history of the program.
