AZUSA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i track and field squad got things going quickly on a busy week for the program, completing two of the five meets on the weekly schedule, while also beginning one other event.

The two Canadian freshmen,
Alexis Brenzil and
Calli-Ann Abbott jumpstarted the busy week for the Rainbow Wahine, competing Wednesday and Thursday in the California Invitational Heptathlon at Azusa Pacific University Stadium. Brenzil finished 34th overall with the 10th UH all-time score of 4,429 points in her first career heptathlon. The Welland, Ontario freshman won the event's javelin with a distance of 135-07 (41.33m), was second in the event's shot put with a toss of 39-07.00 (12.06m) and came in 18th in the event long jump with a mark of 17-07.00 (5.36m).

Abbott came out of the first day in 15, first as a freshman. She racked up a score of 4,124 points, but was unable to complete the final event (800m). She earned fourth in the event shot put and was sixth in the 100m hurdles.

During a separate event on Azusa Pacific's campus, senior
Caitlyn Foss achieved a new personal best in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:18 on the opening day of the Bryan Clay Invitational Distance Carnival.

On the southwest side of the city, UH picked up some scoring performances in the huge 24-team Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Long Beach State's Jack Rose Track. Oakland, Calif. sophomore
Briahn Brown earned a new personal best to finish fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 35-05.75 (10.81m), beating out freshman
Tatiana Desender, who finished seventh with a new personal-best mark of 33-06.75 (10.23m).

Although not a scorer, senior
Mary Kamau picked up a new career long in the hammer throw at 139-06 (42.51m). In just the fifth event of the day, freshman
Alison Bowman put a score on the board for the Rainbow Wahine, finishing fifth in the 1,500m with a time of 5:29.39.
The Rainbow Wahine recorded 10 points in the meet as a squad.
The Rainbow Wahine will finish competition at Bryan Clay on Friday, also starting up action at the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance and the Beach Invitational in Long Beach.
