HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors football team went to work for the fifth time during the spring practice session, Thursday morning on the turf field at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.
Â
Forced to the turf after steady storms have drenched the islands since Tuesday, the Rainbow Warriors went through a fast-paced, two-hour session. Things ran smoothly with a mix of individual and teaching drills, as well as a dose of package installation, team periods and 7-on-7.
Â
Going in full pads, things really started to heat up at the end of the first hour when the Rainbow Warriors went 1-on-1 with a goal line tackling drill, setting a high-energy tone for the second hour.
Â
Settling in the midfield most of each practice is the lone new face among the UH coaching ranks this spring. Taking in his first practices as safeties coach,
Jacob Yoro joined the Rainbow Warriors staff in mid-February from Cal Poly. Hard to miss talking to and teaching defensive players during and after every play, the Mililani native and Saint Louis School graduate already feels right back at home.
Â
Coach Yoro took time after practice to sit down for an interview with HawaiiAthletics.com.
Â
Â
Meanwhile, after practice today, a select group headed out into the community, as head coach
Nick Rolovich and a group of Hawai'i went to Manoa Elementary to participate in Read Across America. Going out to read with the local keiki were
Dru Brown,
Cole Brownholtz,
Dylan Collie,
Jay Dominique,
Eugene Ford,
Kyle Gallup,
Hunter Hughes, Daniel Lewis and
Cole McDonald.
Â
Â
The Rainbow Warriors are 1/3 of the way through their 15 spring practices and will be back on the field Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
