The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team will look to end a six-game losing streak and pick up a season-sweet of UC Irvine when it visits the Anteaters at the Bren Events Center on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (HT).
The Rainbow Wahine (8-17, 4-9 Big West) picked up a 79-62 win over UC Irvine last month in Honolulu when three Hawai'i players scored in double figures, led by
Lahni Salanoa's 18 points.
Sarah Toeaina added 13 points in that game for Hawai'i and
Leah Salanoa finished with 12.
The Anteaters (4-22, 2-10 Big West) shot just 33 percent from the field in that game but hit 12 3-pointers, led by a 5-for-11 3-point performance from Andee Ritter. Ritter is averaging 11.8 points per game for UC Irvine, second on the team behind Shereen Sutherland's 12.6. UC Irvine snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 74-71 overtime win over Cal Poly on Feb. 18.
Hawai'i is 29-8 all-time against UC Irvine, including an 11-7 mark on the road. The Rainbow Wahine have won seven straight in the series.
Hawai'i wraps up its final road trip of the regular-season at Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 25 before returning home for the regular-season finale against Long Beach State on March 4.
The Big West tournament begins March 7 at the Pyramid in Long Beach, Calif., with the first round and quarterfinals before moving to the Honda Center for the semifinals and championship game.
