No. 10 Ducks Take Down Rainbow Wahine

LAS VEGAS – The Hawai'i women's basketball team couldn't slow down No. 10 Oregon in the Duel in the Desert finale on Friday, falling 85-44 in Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas.
 
UH hung tough for the first 16 minutes of the game, trailing 29-20 with four minutes to play in the second quarter before the Ducks cruised into halftime on a 15-4 run to widen the margin.
 
The Rainbow Wahine fall to 6-6 on the season after the loss, the team's second straight against a top-20 team. Oregon, meanwhile, improves to 11-2 on the season. The 'Bows lost to No. 19 Texas A&M to open the tournament on Wednesday.
 
UH point guard Tia Kanoa earned all-tournament team honors after finishing Friday's game with four points, three assists and two rebounds.
 
Julissa Tago led the 'Bows with 11 points on Friday. Rachel Odumu added seven points, four rebounds and two assists for UH, while Lahni Salanoa finished with seven points and four boards.
 
Hawai'i shot 33 percent (17-of-52) from the field and just 2-of-17 from 3-point range. The 'Bows held Oregon under its season-average of 51 percent shooting, as the Ducks hit 30-of-63 (48 percent) from the field, and hit 11-of-27 3-pointers.
 
Oregon outrebounded UH 45-31 overall and 16-9 on the offensive end, leading to a 12-5 advantage in second-chance points.
 
Hawai'i returns to action on Dec. 30 when the Rainbow Wahine host Hawai'i Pacific in the non-conference finale. Big West Conference play begins Jan. 4 at Cal State Fullerton.
