HONOLULU – Two contrasting styles will be on display on Monday night when the Hawai'i women's basketball team welcomes defending Big Sky champion Montana State to the Stan Sheriff Center for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
The sharp-shooting Rainbow Wahine have the second-best field goal percentage in the Big West at 42.1 percent, and have averaged 69.7 points per game over their last six games. Montana State, however, prides itself on a smothering defense that has held four of six Bobcat opponents to 51 points or fewer this season, including a 66-31 win over Providence (MT).
Sarah Toeaina leads the UH offense with 12.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, and is shooting 50.7 percent from the field this season.
Julissa Tago adds 12.0 points per game for UH, and
Tia Kanoa facilitates the attack with 7.1 assists per game.
Madeline Smith and Hannah Caudill lead Montana State with 13.3 and 12.7 points per game, respectively. The Bobcats will face Utah State (Dec. 1) and Nevada (Dec. 2) in the Maui Classic before visiting UH.
Monday's game will be the second all-time meeting between the two teams. UH and Montana State last met on Dec. 2, 1983 when the Bobcats escaped with a 62-60 win on a neutral floor.
Hawai'i will wrap up its seven-game home-stand on Dec. 8 against Idaho State.
