Women's Volleyball Concludes Regular Season At UC Davis, UC Irvine

DAVIS, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team (18-7, 12-2 Big West) heads off on its final roadtrip to take on UC Davis (16-12, 8-7 BWC) on Thursday, Nov. 16 followed by the season finale at UC Irvine (21-6, 9-5 Big West) on Saturday, Nov. 18.
 
The Rainbow Wahine return to the court after their first bye week of the season. UH is coming off one of its strongest weekends of the season after sweeping their last two opponents (CSUN and Long Beach State) during the last homestand at the Stan Sheriff Center two weeks ago to remain in second place in the Big West behind Cal Poly. For her efforts in UH's last homestand, senior middle hitter Emily Maglio earned her first Big West Player of the Week award of her career. She averaged 5.33 kills and 1.33 blocks per set to lead the 'Bows. Maglio, who has won four career Big West Defensive Player of the Week awards, is finishing her senior campaign strong and was dominant in her last two appearances inside the Stan Sheriff Center.  She led UH with 32 kills and eight blocks over the two matches. Against CSUN, she posted a match-high 13 kills on .478 hitting, committing just two errors in 23 attacks. She wast tied with a match-high five blocks, including one solo. Maglio returned against LBSU on Senior Night and fired off 19 kills with a sizzling .630 attack percentage. She made just two errors in 27 swings.  She completed her stat line tied with a match-high three block assists and a pair of digs. For the season, Maglio has led UH in kills 12 times and in blocking on 22 occasions.  She has recorded at least one block in 84 consecutive contests and she has posted 20 double-digit kill matches this year.
 
Fellow senior Savanah Kahakai, is now just four digs shy of tying former UH great Reydan "Tita" Ahuna for No. 3 on the UH career dig list with 1,384. Kahakai's 25 digs in UH's last weekend of play pushed her up to 1,380 career digs. Kahakai, the anchor of the UH defense the last three seasons, has recorded 21 double-digit dig matches this season—including the last 15 straight. She has started the last 85 straight matches as the Rainbow Wahine's libero.
 
Junior outside hitter McKenna Granato continues to lead Hawai'i with 368 kills (3.96 p/s) and she is second on the team with 31 aces and third with 241 digs. She leads UH averaging 4.49 points per set. Granato has recorded 17 double-digit kill matches this year and has set new career highs for the season in kills, service aces, digs, blocks and points.
 
Sophomore setter Norene Iosia ranks second in the Big West averaging 10.32 assists per set and fourth in the league with 33 service aces. Iosia has dished out 980 assists this year with an assist % of .413. She is second on the UH squad with 60 total blocks with five solo and also second on the team with 259 digs.
 
It will be the final regular season matches for Hawai'i's six seniors—Clare-Marie Anderson, Kalei Greeley, Gianna Guinasso, Savanah Kahakai, Kendra Koelsch and Emily Maglio.

SERIES HISTORY: UH holds a 37-0 record against UC Irvine. In UH's Big West opener in Honolulu, the Anteaters took the first set, 25-18 before the 'Bows roared back to win the last three sets, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21 on Sept. 22 in the Stan Sheriff Center.
