Long Beach State Tops UH Soccer 2-0

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i soccer team dropped its second straight game on Sunday, falling 2-0 at Long Beach State.

The loss drops Hawai'i to 5-6 on the season and 0-2 in the Big West Conference. It was the seventh, and final, consecutive road game for the Rainbow Wahine, who will return home to host UC Irvine in the first of four straight home games on Oct. 8.

The 49ers (7-3-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when Tori Bolden beat UH goalkeeper Alexis Mata. Katie Pingel picked up the assist.

The score remained 1-0 until Bolden scored her second goal of the game, this one out of a corner kick, in the 65th minute, putting Long Beach State ahead 2-0. Allie Emmons and Kaitlin Fregulia assisted LBSU's second goal.

Hawai'i's best scoring opportunity came in the 17th minute when the Rainbow Wahine were awarded a penalty kick after Sonest Furtado was dragged down in the box. Raisa Strom-Okimoto's attempt, however, was denied by Long Beach State goalkeeper Mia Hummel to keep the game scoreless.

Long Beach State held a 17-9 advantage in shots, and 9-2 in shots on goal. The 49ers also had a 7-2 lead in corner kicks in the game. Taylor Mason and Leialoha Medeiros were given yellow cards for Hawai'i, and Alyssa Alvarez and Jessica Vincent were given yellow cards for Long Beach State.

Hawai'i will host UC Irvine (Oct. 8), UC Santa Barbara (Oct. 12), CSUN (Oct. 15) and Cal Poly (Oct. 22) in its final home-stand of the season.
