HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (1-2, 0-0 Big West) returns to the courts after 17 days off to take on San Diego in a dual match this Saturday, Feb. 4 at 11:00 am at the UH Tennis Complex. Hawai'i will also open play in the Big West Conference this coming Monday, Feb. 6 against CSUN at 4:00 pm.

Petra Melounova cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win and
Roxanne Resma battled back in a tightly contested three-set match at No. 4. In the third set, Resma was trailing 2-5 to the Rebels' Zalina Khairudoniva before reeling off five-straight games to finish with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win.
Both Nguyen and Melounova are tied atop the Rainbow Wahine standings with overall records of 4-2. Both are 2-1 in dual matches and 2-1 in tournament play.
The Toreros come to Honolulu with a 1-1 dual match record but have a lot of matches under their belt after playing in six tournaments already this season. Leading San Diego is Gemma Garcia who has a 12-5 overall singles record and a 1-1 mark at No. 1. Looking to reach double digits in the win column this week is Nicole Anderson who enters this week with a 9-2 overall record and 1-1 dual match mark both at No. 2. In doubles, the USD duo of Anderson and Maria-Paula Torres is 8-4 overall and have won four-straight matches.
The Matadors, whose roster features three Hawai'i players—Skyla Alcon (Mid-Pacific Institute), Kristen Poei (Iolani), and Scout Shutter (Punahou)—enters this week with a 2-1 dual match record. Their team combined has a 13-5 singles record. Elisa Elhadj and Kiryang Kim both are 3-0 while Alcon, Poei, and Emma Roenholt are all 2-1. Only one player in their statistics has a losing record at 1-2.
