Women's Basketball Opens Road Swing At Cal Poly On Thursday

The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team will look to even its Big West Conference record when it returns to action at Cal Poly on Jan. 19 at 5:00 p.m. (HT).
 
Hawai'i (5-10, 1-2 Big West) is coming off a 60-50 win over Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 12 when the Rainbow Wahine defense held the Titans without a 3-pointer (0-for-15) and forced a season-high 21 turnovers. The 'Bows will look for a similar defensive effort on Thursday, facing a Cal Poly team that ranks second in the Big West in scoring offense (67.4 ppg) and boasts three of the top four scorers in Big West games—Dynn Leaupepe (20.3 ppg), Lynn Leaupepe (20.0 ppg) and Hannah Gilbert (18.0 ppg).
 
Junior Sarah Toeaina leads the Hawai'i offense, averaging 11.6 points per game and 13.3 in Big West play, while senior Briana Harris adds 9.9 points per game off the bench. Hawai'i is holding opponents to 63.7 points per game, ranking third in the Big West in scoring defense.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will wrap up their road trip with their fourth road game in five contests at UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 21 before returning home for six of their next eight games.
