HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team fell to San Diego State in a dual match on Friday afternoon, 5-2.
In doubles, the Rainbow Warriors fought hard and almost captured the first point of the match. After dropping the first match on the No. 3 court, UH's No. 1 duo of
Felix Albert and
Ruben Blattner evened things up after knocking off SDSU's Marko Goles-Babic and Sander Gjoels-Anderson, 6-3. The Aztecs' No. 2 team of Santiago Cevallos and Milen Ianaklev however held off Hawai'i's
Marcel Chan and
Igor Kolaric by a break for the win, 6-4.
In singles, the Aztecs sealed their win by winning on courts 3, 5 and 6. But Hawai'i's Albert and Kolaric both battled to win their matches in three sets. No. 1 Albert outlasted Goles-Babic, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 while No. 2 Kolaric defeated Ianaklev, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4.
Up next, the Rainbow Warriors will open Big West action with an early conference match against UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, Jan. 15 at the UH Tennis Complex.
