Women's Soccer Takes Winning Streak To Colorado

Game Notes

HONOLULU – The Hawai'i women's soccer team is off to its best start in nine years with a 5-0-1 record, matching the six-game start of the 2007 Rainbow Wahine. On Friday the 'Bows will get the chance to do two things the 2007 team could not: remain unbeaten through seven games, and beat Colorado.

After going 15-4-2 and winning the WAC in 2007, Hawai'i made the trip to Colorado for the first round of the NCAA tournament, where the 'Bows fell 2-0 at the hands of the Buffaloes. When Hawai'i opens its three-game road trip at Colorado on Sept. 9 at 12:30 p.m. (HT) they can become the program's first team to remain unbeaten through seven games. The 1998 team owns the program's best unbeaten start by going 6-0 before its first loss.

Hawai'i will stay in Colorado for the remainder of its road trip, where the 'Bows will face Denver on Sept. 11 at 12 p.m. (HT) and Air Force on Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. (HT).

The Rainbow Wahine are riding a five-match winning streak and six-match unbeaten streak heading into their first road trip of the season. Sophomore Raisa Strom-Okimoto ranks 30th in the nation with three assists, 85th with three goals, and 53rd with nine points, and is the team-leader in all three categories. Senior goalkeeper Monk Berger has played every minute in net for Hawai'i, and ranks 11th in the nation with three shutouts and 35th with a 0.466 goals-against average. Hawai'i's .917 winning percentage is 12th best in the country.

Colorado is 3-3 on the season after a 5-0 win over Drexel on Sept. 4. That win snapped a three-game skid for the Buffaloes, who lost by just one goal each to Kansas, Missouri and Michigan State in their previous three matches. Freshman Taylor Kornieck is the team's leader with eight points off of three goals—including one game winner—and a pair of assists. Sophomore Sarah Kinzner also has three goals on the season for Colorado.

Denver enters the week with a 2-4 record, and will face Northern Colorado on Sept. 8 before taking on Hawai'i. The Pioneers are coming off a 3-1 upset road win against an Arizona State team that was receiving votes in the national polls. Hannah Adler and Lilly McSwain share the team lead at three points with one goal and one assist apiece.
