Wisneski, Sueyasu Inducted Into Waimea High School Hall of Honor

WAIMEA, Kaua'i-University of Hawai'i softball alumnae and teammates Dee Wisneski and Laynie Sueyasu were both inducted into the Waimea High School Hall of Honor this past weekend.

Wisneski is a 1991 graduate of Waimea High School. She is a member of the 1990 Menehune Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA)softball championship team. Her talent and athleticism garnered her all-Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation honors in three sports-softball, volleyball, and basketball. Wisneski was named The Honolulu Advertiser High School Female Athlete of the Year and was inducted into the Hawai'i High School Hall of Honor in 1991.

Wisneski then brought her softball talents to the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine softball team where she played four years at shortstop and helped lead the squad to its first Big West title in 1994 as well as the program's first two NCAA tournament appearances in 1994 and 1995. Deirdre completed her undergraduate studies in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She has been on the UH softball staff since 1996 and she currently is the Associate Head Coach at the University of Hawai'i. Wisneski has helped to develop several of UH's most notable infielders, including All-Americans Joyce Lum, Stacey Porter, Tyleen Tausaga, Kate Robinson, Clare Warwick, Melissa Gonzalez, and Jessica Iwata. Wisneski also oversees the team's academic progress and success.

Sueyasu graduated from Waimea High in 1992. She lettered in softball and earned all-league honors all four years as a Menehune. She was also a member of the 1990 HHSAA Championship team. Her talented athletic abilities garnered her KIF Player of the Year in 1992. Sueyasu was also an honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society as a student athlete at Waimea High School.

Sueyasu joined Wisneski to play softball at the University of Hawai'i and was teammates with Wisneski for two seasons as a Rainbow Wahine. Sueyasu was an infielder on the team for four seasons. Academically, Laynie received her Bachelor's of Education in Hawaiian Language and Health Education and a Master's of Science in kinesiology and leisure science-adapted physical education. She is currently the Athletic Director of Castle High School.
