STOCKTON, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team completed their first roadtrip of the season, falling at No. 73 Pacific, 7-0 on Thursday afternoon at Stockton, Calif. The Tigers improved to 3-4 on the season, while the Rainbow Warriors fell to 1-6 overall.
Pacific captured the doubles point by winning the first two matches on No. 1 and No. 2. Pacific's No. 1 duo of Sem Verbeek and Miguel Diaz defeated UH's
Felix Albert and
Marcel Chan, 6-3 while the Tigers' Daniel Alameh and Alex Giannini knocked off
Igor Kolaric and
Joakim Pinola.
In singles, the Tigers swept Hawai'i, but the Rainbow Warriors fought hard in the defeat. Chan, who was playing on the No. 2 court for the first time this season, was edged out by Alameh in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. On the No. 4 court, UH's Pinola fell to Ginnini in a very close match, losing 7-5, 7-6 (6) while
Nikolai Storch and Pacific's Bernardo Oliveira split the first two sets with Storch winning the first set, 6-4, but Oliveira came back to take the second set, 7-5. Then, with the match already captured by the Tigers, Oliveira outlasted Storch in the third set tiebreaker, 13-11.
The Rainbow Warriors return home for two weeks before they head to Las Vegas, Nev. For another roadtrip in which they will take on UNLV on Feb. 19, Loyola Marymount on Feb. 20, and St. Mary's on Feb. 21.
