Rainbow Wahine Basketball Can't Slow Down Ducks

HONOLULU – The Hawai'i women's basketball team got off to the start it wanted against Oregon on Saturday, building a seven-point lead twice in the first quarter, but the final 30 minutes was all Ducks as the Rainbow Wahine fell 86-49 on the second day of the Rainbow Wahine Shootout.

Oregon's (5-1) offense was clicking on all cylinders Saturday, as the Ducks hit 12-of-20 3-pointers and also dominated in the paint where it outscored Hawai'i (2-4) 38-16. Oregon shot 58 percent (32-of-55) from the field and hit 10-of-11 free throws for good measure. The Ducks also used a 35-24 rebounding advantage to outscore Hawai'i 17-5 in second-chance points.

Hawai'i led 21-18 through one quarter after shooting 57 percent (8-of-14) from the field and 50 percent (5-of-10) from 3, but Oregon scored the first four points of the second and wouldn't trail the rest of the way.

Briana Harris led the Rainbow Wahine in scoring with 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting and added six rebounds. Olivia Crawford and Julissa Tago each added nine points for Hawai'i, Keleah-Aiko Koloi scored eight and Sarah Toeaina finished with six.

Oregon's Lexi Bando led all scorers with 22 points, doing most of her damage from the outside where she connected on 6-of-11 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Ruthy Hebard used her 6-foot-4 frame down low to add 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting and secure a game-high nine rebounds.

Hawai'i wraps up the Rainbow Wahine Showdown against No. 7 Mississippi State at 4:30 p.m. (HT) on Sunday.
