Box Score

HONOLULU – Lights-out shooting by San Jose State throughout the final three quarters was enough for the Spartans to deal the Hawai'i women's basketball team a 77-61 loss on the opening day of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown at the Stan Sheriff Center on Friday.

San Jose State shot 58.7 percent from the field after the first quarter and owned the glass throughout the game, finishing with a 42-29 rebounding advantage to end Hawai'i's nine-game home winning streak.

The Rainbow Wahine took a 17-13 lead after the first quarter, holding the Spartans to just 4-of-19 shooting from the field and 1-of-10 from 3-point range before San Jose State outscored the 'Bows 22-10 in the second quarter to take the lead for good.

The Spartans built the lead to as many as 14 points in the third quarter before Hawai'i made a final push in the fourth. The Rainbow Wahine cut the deficit to six points twice midway through the final quarter, pulling within 62-56 with 5:15 to play, but San Jose State sealed the game with an 11-0 run to pull ahead 73-56 with less than two minutes to play. It was Hawai'i's first home loss since Jan. 16, 2016 against CSUN.

Junior Sarah Toeaina scored a career-high 24 points for Hawai'i to lead all scorers. She went 9-of-17 from the field and 6-of-8 at the free-throw line to best her previous career-high by 10 points. Sophomore Leah Salanoa added 12 points for Hawai'i. Four San Jose State players scored in double figures, led by Dezz Ramos' 18 points.
