LOS ANGELES, Calif.—Three Rainbow Warriors of University of Hawai'i men's tennis team advanced to the singles qualifying Round of 16 in the 60^th Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championships which began on Thursday. The five-day tournament is hosted by USC at the Marks Stadium with singles qualifying beginning on Thursday with doubles qualifying starting on Friday. Hawai'i is one of 12 schools competing in the tourney.
 
Thursday began with singles qualifying and the Round of 64. Five out of six Rainbow Warriors won their first match of the day—including Christopher Cajigan Marcel Chan. Eric Kenneth, Igor Kolaric, and Fabian Woehrl. Cajigan edged out Concordia's Manhon Ko which culminated in a second set tie-breaker, 6-3, 7-6 (2). Both Chan and Kolaric played even against their opponents through two sets to have their results decided on a match tie-breaker in place of a third set. Chan held on to defeat Karl Enander of Cal Poly, 6-3, 5-7, 10-7. After dropping the first set, Kolaric battled back to hold off Daniel Cardiff in a tough third set tie-breaker, 5-7, 6-3, 11-9. Kenneth won a close match over Concordia's Sten Boersma winning a first set tie-breaker and taking the second set by one break, 7-6 (3), 6-4. Woehrl dispatched Concordia's Thijs Hagen in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
 
Only three Rainbow Warriors survived the Round of 32. Felix Albert and Ruben Blattner and both of their opponents had byes in the Round of 64. Albert took care of business easily defeating Pepperdine's Guilherme Galvao in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 while Blattner's match was decided in a third-set tie-breaker, 6-2, 3-6, 10-4. Chan was the third Hawai'i player to advance to the Round of 16, holding off UC San Diego's Rodrigo Amaral, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
 
In the Round of 16, Chan will take on Eric Tseng also of UCSD and Blattner will battle Albert on Friday.
