Men’s Golf Island Hops To Kaua‘i & Maui To Host Tournaments

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team will host a pair of highly competitive neighbor island tournaments next week with the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational, Oct. 30-Nov. 1 on Kaua'i's North Shore and the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational, Nov. 4-6 in West Maui.
 
The fifth annual Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational features the tournament's largest field at 19 teams including four Top 50 programs – No. 22 Arizona State, No. 24 Missouri, No. 25 Mississippi, and No. 49 Colorado State. The rest of the field along with UH includes Cal Poly, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Idaho, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisville, Pepperdine, Princeton, Sam Houston State, San Diego, San Francisco, UC Irvine, UMKC, and Utah Valley.
 
Participants will play a total of 54 holes, 18 on each day at the par-72 course checking in at 7,223 yards. All three rounds begin with an 8:00 a.m., shotgun. The Makai Golf Club has been rated as Golf Digest's No. 1 Golf Course in Hawai'i and one of America's Top 100 Greatest Courses.
 
All 11 UH golfers will participate in the tournament, however, competing for the team score are seniors Skye Inakoshi and Pono Tokioka, sophomore Cameron Kaneko and Sam Schwartz, and freshman Desmond Mello.
 
UH will then conclude its fall season by hosting the third annual Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational at the Royal Ka'anapali Course on the Valley Isle.  Competing in 24-team tournament are eight Top 50 programs – No. 8 Oklahoma, No. 13 LSU, No. 14 Georgia, No. 23 Clemson, No. 33 North Florida, No. 36 UNC Wilmington, No. 39 Kansas, and No. 43 South Carolina – in addition to Ball State, Boise State, Bowling Green, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Georgia State, Gonzaga, Hawai'i, Hawai'i-Hilo, Houston, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Minnesota, Sacramento State, Texas-San Antonio, and UC Santa Barbara.
 
The 54-hole tournament will feature 18 holes each day at the par-71, 6,700-yard Royal Ka'anapali Course. The tourney begins each day with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The Royal Ka'anapali was built in 1962 and is one of only two courses in Hawai'i designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
 
Last season, the Warriors placed seventh in the 19-team field with an 869 total.
