HONOLULU – Eight Rainbow Wahine seniors will play their final game at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium on Sunday when the Hawai'i women's soccer team hosts Cal State Fullerton at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on OC Sports.
Storm Kenui,
T.J. Reyno,
Addie Steiner,
Madison Reed,
Ryan Daniel,
Monk Berger,
Lauren Takai and
Elise Wassner will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony after the game. But first the Rainbow Wahine will look to take care of business on the field, where a nine-match home-unbeaten streak and three critical points in the Big West Conference standings are at stake.
Hawai'i (9-3-2, 2-2-1 Big West) enters the weekend in a four-way tie for fourth place--two points behind the Titans--looking to secure a top-four finish and the program's first-ever trip to the Big West tournament. Cal State Fullerton (6-9, 3-2 Big West) has the advantage over Hawai'i in the Big West standings, but has yet to win on the road in 2016, with an 0-6 mark outside of Fullerton. The Titans do, however, own an 8-2 all-time record over Hawai'i and are riding a five-match winning streak in the series, including a 4-0 win in Fullerton in the last meeting.
Hawai'i is led by offensively by Steiner and sophomore
Raisa Strom-Okimoto. Steiner's eight goals this season lead the team and rank third in the Big West. Her four goals during conference play are tied with Fullerton's Sarah Fajnor for best in the Big West. Strom-Okimoto, meanwhile, is Hawai'i's points leader with 18 from five goals and eight assists. Her eight assists lead the Big West and rank ninth nationally.
Senior goalkeeper
Monk Berger is putting the finishing touches on one of the best goalkeeping careers in program history. Her 16 career shutouts are a program record, and her seven clean sheets this season match her own school record from 2013, and are also tied for second in the Big West this season.
After Sunday's contest, the Rainbow Wahine will wrap up the regular season at UC Irvine (Oct. 28) and CSUN (Oct. 30).
