HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team fell to UC Davis (9-6, 2-0 Big West), 60-58 on Saturday afternoon at the Pavilion in Davis, Calif. in its' first road-loss of the season. UH drops to an 8-7, 1-1 Big West record.

After holding on to the lead throughout most of the game, the Aggies surged back late in the final quarter for as much as a four-point advantage with just 33-seconds left. UH fought hard to the very last second to reclaim the lead, but it wasn't enough to pull ahead in time.

The Rainbow Wahine finished with a season-high 11 treys (11-22-.500%) and were led by senior Ashleigh Karaitiana (15pts, 5-10 3pt FGs, four rebounds) and freshman Olivia Crawford, who netted a career-high 12 points, three treys, four rebounds).

For just the second time this season, the 'Bows were out-rebounded by an opponent, with Aggies pulling down 35 over UH's 28 boards.

Karaitiana fired away from three-point range to open the first quarter, sinking three treys to fuel a 15-10 lead over the Aggies. After UC Davis quickly responded with a layup, Briana Harris hit a deep three at the buzzer to give the 'Bows an 18-12 advantage at the end of the period.

In the second quarter however, the Rainbow Wahine struggled to find the net as the Aggies pulled ahead with a 7-0 run, eventually stealing the lead, 19-18. Out of media timeout, freshman Olivia Crawford ended the 'Bows' scoring drought with another trey, igniting a 9-2 run. But as the clock wound down, UC Davis surged back with six unanswered points to tie it at 27 by halftime.

UH led by as many as 11-points after draining five more treys in the third period alone, but the Aggies answered back with a remarkable 19-7 run that carried them all the way through the fourth quarter to take a four-point lead with just 33-seconds left.

Morgan Bertsch led the Aggies with a game-high 21 points and six rebounds.
UH returns to action next week as the Rainbow Wahine host CSUN, Jan. 14 and UC Riverside, Jan. 16 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
