Big West Play Beckons for Rainbow Wahine Soccer

UH begins its fourth Big West campaign this week

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team begins Big West Conference play with a pair of matches this week at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine host UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7:00 pm. before taking on Cal Poly on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 5:00 p.m. The UCSB match will be the first of two contests broadcast live statewide on OCSports
 
UH enters the week having closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 3-6-1 record. Despite a tough first half of the season, the 'Bows are unbeaten in their previous four home games (3-0-1) and are 3-2-1 overall at WPSS. Their two loses came at the hands of two Top 25 opponents.
 
Dani Crawford leads the 'Bows with three goals having taken advantage of her opportunities with just six shots on the season. T.J. Reyno has a goal and, along with Storm Kenui, a team-high two assists including one off a corner kick against BYU-Hawaii that gave centerback Lidia Battaglia her first career goal.
 
This year mark's UH's fourth season in the Big West. The Rainbow Wahine exceeded expectations in each of their first two seasons but failed to make the Big West Tournament last fall. The 'Bows were picked to finish tied for sixth with the Gauchos in the preseason order of finish and Kenui was named to the preseason all-conference team.
 
The top four teams in the regular-season standings will advance to the Big West Tournament to be held in Fullerton, Cailf., on Nov. 5 and 8.

Promotions: First Hawaiian Bank is the sponsor of Thursday's match and will award a Zippy's gift card to the winner of the on-field promotion during halftime. Kids (eighth grade and under) can register at the sports marketing table next to the concessions stand to participate in the halftime contest. T-shirts will be tossed into the crowd after every UH goal.Bank of Hawaii is the sponsor on Sunday and will distribute 100 tote bags at the sports marketing table and award $70 in gift cards during the promotional contest at halftime. Also, Bank of Hawaii blankets will be tossed into the crowd after every UH goal.
