Box Score (html)RENO, Nev. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team tied the score twice only to see Nevada immediately retake the lead on both occasions in a 3-2 loss to the Wolf Pack on Sunday afternoon at Mackay Stadium.
Trailing 2-1, the 'Bows tied up the match in the 87
th minute when
Dani Crawford finished from inside the box on a
Storm Kenui corner kick. With the match seemingly headed into overtime, Nevada earned a penalty kick not even two minutes later which Hannah Wuensche put home for the eventual gamewinner.
Erica Young, starting in goal in place of the injured
Monk Berger, had a clean sheet for most of the first half before Nevada scored with less than seven minutes remaining. Brianna Bosson scored off a header and Nevada led 1-0 after the first 45 minutes.
UH pulled even midway through the second half when freshman
Raisa Strom-Okimoto scored her first collegiate goal, finishing a strike just outside the box.
Nevada (4-4) retook the lead for the second time 1:27 later but, undaunted, UH continued to push forward and finally broke through with Crawford's equalizer with less than four minutes to play.
Young posted four saves in net and
Alexis Mata, spelling Young at halftime, had three saves in her first collegiate action.
The 'Bows (2-6-1) return home to play BYU-Hawai'i on Thursday, Sept. 24 in their final game before beginning Big West Conference play.
