T.J. Reyno scored a first-half equalizer and UH's first away goal, but it came in a losing effort as the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team lost 3-1 to UNLV on Friday night at Johan Field.
Reyno's goal just before halftime was her first of the season and was the eighth different UH player to score this season. Outside back
Sarah Lau notched her first career assist, serving a ball into the penalty box that Reyno finished to the right side netting to even up the match heading to half time.
The 'Bows (2-5-1) had been outshot 10-3 in the first half but took advantage of one of their few opportunities.
Erica Young, playing in place of an injured
Monk Berger in goal, posted four of her five saves before halftime.
Hawai'i was the aggressor in the second half but it were the Rebels who scored twice. 12 of UH's 15 shots came in the second half but none could find the back of the net. Jordan Sallee had two saves for the Rebels (4-4).
UNLV opened the scoring with Dakota Blazak's goal in the ninth minute, dribbling through the heart of the UH defense and beating Young. The Rebels retook the lead in the 53
rd minute on a goal from Susie Bernal, then added insurance when Jodi Barber put home a rebound off a Young save in the 72
nd minute.
UH closes its two-match road trip at Nevada this Sunday, Sept. 20. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. PT (8:00 a.m. HT).
