Box Score (html)WAIPAHU, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team scored a goal in each half, proving to be just enough in a 2-1 win over CSU Bakersfield on Saturday night at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Kelsie Gleason scored off a corner kick in the 20
th minute with
Dani Crawford scoring an unassisted goal in the 57
th minute.
CSUB (1-3-1) provided some late excitement when Chloe Peepgrass poked home a goal after a scrum in front of the net to cut the lead to 2-1 with just over 10 minutes to play. The 'Bows kept their composure though and held on for the win, their second straight home victory.
The 'Bows (2-4-1) were the aggressors early, dispossessing the Roadrunners several times in their defensive third leading to shots by Gleason,
Kama Pascua and
T.J. Reyno.
After repeated chances, the wall finally came down in front of the Bakersfield goal. In the 20
th minute, the 'Bows earned one of their nine first-half corner kicks.
Storm Kenui curled the kick right to the head of Gleason who promptly headed home the shot past Roadrunner keeper Tori Ornela. Ornella would finish the night with six saves.
Crawford then extended the lead, pouncing on
Tiana Fujimoto's deflected shot and finishing in the left corner to put the 'Bows up by two goals. The 'Bows now return to the road, this time to the state of Nevada where they will play UNLV on Thursday, Sept. 18 and Nevada on Saturday, Sept. 20.
