UFC Fighter Max Holloway Honorary Captain For CU Game

HONOLULU – One of the UFC's top featherweight division fighters Max Holloway, of Wai'anae, O'ahu, will serve as the University of Hawai'i's honorary captain for its season-opener against Colorado, Sept. 3 at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium.

Kick-off between the Rainbow Warriors (0-0) and Buffaloes (0-0) is 7:04 p.m., and the game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network. Holloway will address the team in the locker room and accompany the UH game captains to midfield for the coin toss.

A 2010 Wai'anae High School graduate, Holloway is currently ranked No. 5 in the UFC featherweight rankings. He has won his last seven bouts, including a first-round TKO of Charles Oliveira two weeks ago in the UFC Fight Night main event in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Holloway is the second UFC fighter to serve as honorary captain in recent years, joining UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn. Since head coach Norm Chow's arrival in 2012, the Warriors have adopted the honorary captain and "Warrior Walk" as new game-day traditions.
