HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team played Wyoming to a 2-2 double overtime draw, Thursday night in the Outrigger Resorts No Ka 'Oi at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
The 'Bows struck first when in the fourth minute
Paige Okazaki got her foot on a loose ball in front the goal and poked it by Wyoming (0-0-2) goalkeeper Georgia Roundtree.
The lead was short-lived when, less than four minutes later, Mandy Meyer headed home a corner kick for the Cowgirls and just like that the match was tied.
In the second half, the 'Bows (0-2-1) struck early again.
Kama Pascua dropped a nice ball over the left side of the back line as
Tiana Fujimoto ran on and controlled it. A couple touches later and she ripped a shot that hit the post and went in, beating newly inserted Cowgirl keeper Cassidy Entsminger.
The 'Bows had the majority of the possession early in the second half as Pascua and
Sonest Furtado did the work in the attacking third of the field. Wyoming had its moments though, forcing
Monk Berger to come off her line to gobble up a handful of services into the box.
Wyoming had its fair share of chances and finally equalized in the 75
th minute when Candace Sciberras, who had been having her way on the right flank, served a ball in the box that was finished by Shaina Ashuri.
The 'Bows dominated much of the overtime period but were unable to score a sudden victory win.
The tournament continues on Saturday when Wyoming squares off with Denver at 7:00 p.m. at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The tournament concludes on Monday with UH vs. Denver at 7:00 p.m.
