EUGENE, Ore. – University of Hawai'i thrower
Alex Porlier Langlois placed 19
th in the shot put competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Thursday, at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.

Competing in her first NCAA Championship, Porlier Langlois' best throw was 51-2¼ (15.60m) on her second attempt. She threw 50-3¼ (15.32m) on her first attempt and fouled on her third and final throw.

Southern Illinois' Raven Saunders, the indoor national champion, won the competition with throw of 60-2½ (18.35m). Wisconsin's Kelsey Card was runner-up at 58-11¼ (17.96m) and LSU's Tori Bliss captured bronze at 58-6 (17.83m).

Porlier Langlois was UH's first shot put thrower to qualify for the NCAA Championships by virtue of a ninth place finish at the NCAA West Preliminary Round two weeks ago. The only other UH thrower to qualify for a national meet was Waynette Mitchell at the 1974 AIAW Championships.

The St. Cesaire, Quebec native completed a record-breaking year in which she set school shot put records during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Porlier Langlois, who earlier this year was UH's recipient of the Big West Conference's Scholar Athlete of the Year, captured the gold medal at the Big West Championships and took bronze at the indoor Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. She also set personal bests in both the discus and hammer throw events.

Porlier Langlois will next compete for Team Canada at the World University Games in South Korea.

The track and field championships also concluded the 2014-15 UH athletics season.
